GoodBye to Dad

This morning around 2am or so my Dad passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was diagnosed with Emphysema about 11 years ago and had been on oxygen for about that long. I am going to miss him so very much. No matter how prepared, how aware you are, when it finally happens it is still hard to deal with.

That said, he overcame a great many odds and was active for a good while after being put on oxygen. I am proud for the way he fought and continued to surprise the doctors with his will power.

After the first few years the docs stopped giving us a time line. In the beginning we didn't think he'd be around to see me or my sister graduate college. An while he wasn't able to go to either service, he was still around.

I am very happy that he is no longer suffering, distraught that he is gone for I've never dealt with death this closely before. Others in the extended family have gone, grandparents, aunts and uncles... but because we've always lived so far away I never really knew them. I am so so very angry that he chose not to put his tremendous willpower to work sooner when it came to his cigarettes.

He deserved so much better than an end like this. I wish he could have had a fun filled, love filled retirement.

This post is in his memory, to mark the day. Later I'll write some more on other topics I need to get off my chest. But for now, I hope God will welcome my Dad to Heaven. Any prayers would be appreciated. I need the strength as does my Mom.

Hugs,

Me

p.s.

I have unlocked this post because my sis has been informed. She's taking it pretty well.

I Am A: Lawful Good Human Monk/Ranger (2nd/2nd Level)

Ability Scores:

Strength-13

Dexterity-15

Constitution-12

Intelligence-12

Wisdom-17

Charisma-11

Alignment:
Lawful Good A lawful good character acts as a good person is expected or required to act. He combines a commitment to oppose evil with the discipline to fight relentlessly. He tells the truth, keeps his word, helps those in need, and speaks out against injustice. A lawful good character hates to see the guilty go unpunished. Lawful good is the best alignment you can be because it combines honor and compassion. However, lawful good can be a dangerous alignment because it restricts freedom and criminalizes self-interest.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Primary Class:
Monks are versatile warriors skilled at fighting without weapons or armor. Good-aligned monks serve as protectors of the people, while evil monks make ideal spies and assassins. Though they don't cast spells, monks channel a subtle energy, called ki. This energy allows them to perform amazing feats, such as healing themselves, catching arrows in flight, and dodging blows with lightning speed. Their mundane and ki-based abilities grow with experience, granting them more power over themselves and their environment. Monks suffer unique penalties to their abilities if they wear armor, as doing so violates their rigid oath. A monk wearing armor loses their Wisdom and level based armor class bonuses, their movement speed, and their additional unarmed attacks per round.

Secondary Class:
Rangers are skilled stalkers and hunters who make their home in the woods. Their martial skill is nearly the equal of the fighter, but they lack the latter's dedication to the craft of fighting. Instead, the ranger focuses his skills and training on a specific enemy a type of creature he bears a vengeful grudge against and hunts above all others. Rangers often accept the role of protector, aiding those who live in or travel through the woods. His skills allow him to move quietly and stick to the shadows, especially in natural settings, and he also has special knowledge of certain types of creatures. Finally, an experienced ranger has such a tie to nature that he can actually draw on natural power to cast divine spells, much as a druid does, and like a druid he is often accompanied by animal companions. A ranger's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that he can cast.

Find out What Kind of Dungeons and Dragons Character Would You Be?, courtesy of Easydamus (e-mail)

Detailed Results:

Alignment:
Lawful Good ----- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (25)
Neutral Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (21)
Chaotic Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (22)
Lawful Neutral -- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (21)
True Neutral ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (17)
Chaotic Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (18)
Lawful Evil ----- XXXXXXXXXXX (11)
Neutral Evil ---- XXXXXXX (7)
Chaotic Evil ---- XXXXXXXX (8)

Law & Chaos:
Law ----- XXXXXXXXXX (10)
Neutral - XXXXXX (6)
Chaos --- XXXXXXX (7)

Good & Evil:
Good ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (15)
Neutral - XXXXXXXXXXX (11)
Evil ---- X (1)

Race:
Human ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXX (13)
Dwarf ---- XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Elf ------ XXXXXXXX (8)
Gnome ---- XXXXXXXXXXXX (12)
Halfling - XXXXXXXX (8)
Half-Elf - XXXXXXXXX (9)
Half-Orc - XX (2)

Class:
Barbarian - (-27)
Bard ------ (-19)
Cleric ---- XX (2)
Druid ----- (-19)
Fighter --- (0)
Monk ------ XXXX (4)
Paladin --- (0)
Ranger ---- XXXX (4)
Rogue ----- (-6)
Sorcerer -- (0)
Wizard ---- (-2)

Prayer Request

I don't like to talk about this too much here mostly cause it's pretty depressing. And also because we've had so many ups and downs.

For those of you who don't know, my Father has emphysema. He's had it about 11 years and we've had lots of close calls.

We put him in the hospital shortly after Thanksgiving and we were hoping to bring him home soon.

However it's fairly clear that these are going to be his final days (or weeks).

They've put him on some pain killers to help ease his breathing, which from what we've been told by hospital staff in the past and by others who've had family members struck with this disease is generally the last phase before some one passes.

I don't need any condolences so I'm gunna turn off comments. I do have one request that if you are so inclined, that you please pray for him and my family for strength, patience and for God to welcome my dad to His kingdom.

Thanks,

Steph
